EVENTS in Steiglitz later this month have been made an official part of the Australian Heritage Festival for the first time.<\/p>\n

The Back to Steiglitz Association will host several guided tours, site visits, morning and afternoon teas, and an exhibition of work by local artists on Sunday 27 April.<\/p>\n

The national festival runs from today, 18 April, to 18 May.<\/p>\n

Association secretary Gillian Dickson said securing official heritage festival status made things easier in terms of organising, hosting and managing tours and other activities.<\/p>\n

“It’s a bit more organised,” she said.<\/p>\n

Mrs Dickson said the association had only about 10 members and hosting and managing tours and similar activities could sometimes be difficult.<\/p>\n

The group holds an annual Back to Steiglitz day each year and has hosted group and club visits before, but never on a formal, managed basis.<\/p>\n

The Steiglitz component of the heritage festival will be under the banner of Memories of the Golden Past.<\/p>\n

Mrs Dickson said local people would act as guides for the tours, and more than 15 bookings had already been received.<\/p>\n

The first two activities will take place from 10.30am to 11.30am and will offer a choice of either a bushwalk or a town history walk.<\/p>\n

The second two, from 2pm to 3pm, will be a choice of a cemetery tour or a mine site visit.<\/p>\n

The local art exhibition will be set up at the old Catholic church.<\/p>\n

Bookings for the guided walks and tours are essential because numbers are limited, and can be made by phoning 0047 556 796, via email at back2steiglitz@hotmail.com<\/a> or the Back to Steiglitz Facebook page.<\/p>\n

Tickets are also available at eventbrite.com.au<\/a> .<\/p>\n
