{"id":101760,"date":"2025-04-25T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-24T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=101760"},"modified":"2025-04-24T15:20:04","modified_gmt":"2025-04-24T05:20:04","slug":"bus-trip-to-uncover-burrumbeets-past","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/bus-trip-to-uncover-burrumbeets-past\/","title":{"rendered":"Bus trip to uncover Burrumbeet&#8217;s past"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WOADY Yaloak Historical Society members are inviting the community to join them on a bus trip to Lake Burrumbeet.<\/p>\n<p>The event will cover geological, family and special interest history with guest speaker Laurie Moore.<\/p>\n<p>Lake Burrumbeet is the largest of four shallow lakes in the region with an area of 23 square kilometres and an average depth of 1.5 metres.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Moore, who is the author of six books, said he is particularly interested in the Lake Burrumbeet district due to the lack of research about the area<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As I was teaching geology at Macquarie University when it started say 50 years ago\u2026 I thought this would be an interesting project because no one else seemed to have done much with it,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s the biggest of four lakes in the western highlands and it&#8217;s quite a distance across.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The bus trip will take place on Saturday 24 May leaving from The Well at Smythesdale at 9.30am and returning about 3pm.<\/p>\n<p>It will include nine stops around the lake.<\/p>\n<p>Kylie Fenton, Woady Yaloak Historical Society president, said the organisation is hoping to branch into diverse areas of history including geology, arts and First Nations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We always cover history as in what was done and the people and families, but we want to go more into different areas,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are trying to diversify and bring all areas of history.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We did include Burrumbeet even though it is outside our so called area because it is a big part of the history, geology wise, of the Woady Yaloak area.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Attendees are asked to bring lunch, a hat, sunscreen and a folding camping chair if needed. Water, tea and coffee will be provided.<\/p>\n<p>The event is alcohol free. The bus trip costs $25 per person.
