{"id":101906,"date":"2025-05-10T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-05-09T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=101906"},"modified":"2025-05-09T15:37:22","modified_gmt":"2025-05-09T05:37:22","slug":"sculptures-star-in-meredith-art-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/sculptures-star-in-meredith-art-show\/","title":{"rendered":"Sculptures star in Meredith art show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MEREDITH History Interest Group hosted a sculpture exhibition at the town&#8217;s History Centre last weekend.<\/p>\n<p>A prize-giving for entrants was held on Sunday 4 May at 2pm, with Darren Guthrie winning the overall first prize and the People&#8217;s Choice for his work, Grandad&#8217;s old tractor.<\/p>\n<p>MHIG&#8217;s Marg Cooper said the group is always looking for new ways to bring history to the public.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We collect a lot of history, but we also like to do things to get historic information out there,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve got a lovely building &#8211; the old shire hall which was built in 1878 &#8211; and a lovely yard to go with it.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_101912\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-101912\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-101912\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/05\/DSC01636Presentation_68394-1-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/05\/DSC01636Presentation_68394-1-rotated.jpg 800w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/05\/DSC01636Presentation_68394-1-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/05\/DSC01636Presentation_68394-1-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/05\/DSC01636Presentation_68394-1-768x1152.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-101912\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">the guest judge was Mark Cuthbertson, artist of Aunty Meredith&#8217;s Lounge in the centre of the town.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the time we&#8217;ve been there, we&#8217;ve improved the yard&#8230; and the idea was to bring the sculptures to the garden, but we also had a lot of inside sculptures. It looked fantastic.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We ended up with 99 entries, which was better than we ever dreamed of. Twenty of those were children.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Overall second prize winner was Ms Cooper with Relics of my childhood and an honourable mention went to Jake McDonnell for Digging the Land.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_101913\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-101913\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-101913\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/05\/DSC01402Jake_72011-1-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/05\/DSC01402Jake_72011-1-rotated.jpg 800w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/05\/DSC01402Jake_72011-1-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/05\/DSC01402Jake_72011-1-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/05\/DSC01402Jake_72011-1-768x1152.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-101913\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">An honourable mention went to Jake McDonnell for Digging the land.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Junior first and second prizes went to Luca and Hamish respectively, for Aussie Snag and Ned Kelly.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The judge, Inverleigh&#8217;s Mark Cuthbertson, was so taken with Ned Kelly, he bought it,&#8221; Ms Cooper said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We hope people enjoyed having the opportunity to make things.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The event was part of the Australian Heritage Festival.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MEREDITH History Interest Group hosted a sculpture exhibition at the town&#8217;s History Centre last weekend.
