THE Round 18 AFL match between the Western Bulldogs and the Adelaide Crows will no longer be played in Ballarat.<\/p>\n
The clash has been moved from Mars Stadium to Marvel Stadium in Melbourne to allow for more spectators.<\/p>\n
Mars Stadium is currently undergoing upgrades to double the seating capacity from 5000 to 10,000 and standing room is unavailable.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith capacity at Mars Stadium currently limited, we have worked with the Western Bulldogs and Visit Victoria to relocate the match previously scheduled there against the Adelaide Crows in Round 18 and give more members and supporters the opportunity to attend the match at the larger venue of Marvel Stadium,\u201d AFL head of strategy and scheduling Josh Bowler said.<\/p>\n
In a statement released by the City of Ballarat, mayor Cr Tracey Hargreaves said the organisation is supportive of the decision.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe City of Ballarat supports the decision to relocate the Round 18 AFL match between the Western Bulldogs and the Adelaide Crows from Mars Stadium to Marvel Stadium,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile we acknowledge the impact for local fans hoping to see this marquee match in Ballarat, we understand the importance of providing access to the largest possible audience for such a high-demand event \u2013 particularly with both clubs likely to be in finals contention and a significant interstate supporter presence expected.\u201d<\/p>\n
Western Bulldogs members with Ballarat access will have guaranteed entry to Marvel Stadium for the match.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will continue to explore alternative options together for our future matches under the partnership while construction continues,\u201d Cr Hargreaves said.<\/p>\n
