Smythes Creek based painter and photographer Vanessa Brady has been involved with the initiative since its inception.<\/p>\n
She has two paintings of birds on display in the winter exhibition, and said it is critical to have local initiatives to support creatives.<\/p>\n
“Whenever there are economic stressors, the arts is the first to be cut all the time,” she said.<\/p>\n
“It can be quite confronting for a lot of artists to get their art out there. Getting it out there helps the arts community because it encourages other people and I think brings colour and life to everybody’s life.”<\/p>\n
Bannockburn’s Lyn Steele predominantly paints birds and is exhibiting two works of rainbow lorikeets and a honeyeater.<\/p>\n
She encouraged local creatives to become involved with Golden Spaces.<\/p>\n
“I would really encourage anyone within the Shire to submit the artwork and participate because it really is a wonderful event,” Steele said.<\/p>\n
“The council have been wonderful\u2026 they’re just really encouraging and fantastic to work with.<\/p>\n
“Whether people are beginners or full-time professional artists, it’s just a wonderful way for them to showcase their art in the local community.”<\/p>\n
The Golden Spaces summer exhibition is currently on display at The Well at Smythesdale and will move to the Golden Plains Civic Centre in August.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
