{"id":102374,"date":"2025-06-27T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-06-26T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=102374"},"modified":"2025-06-25T21:57:01","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T11:57:01","slug":"social-bowls-on-a-roll-on-sundays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/social-bowls-on-a-roll-on-sundays\/","title":{"rendered":"Social bowls on a roll on Sundays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FOR those seeking a warming winter activity, Linton and District Bowling Club offers an inclusive and social Sunday sporting option.<\/p>\n<p>Their Sunday Scroungers social lawn bowls competition runs from 1pm to 3pm, with afternoon tea and play-offs between the winners of each rink.<\/p>\n<p>About 20 to 35 people usually attend, and players of all abilities are welcome, from beginners to bowls experts.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s an easy game, all-inclusive of men and women, and players with mobility issues can use aids like an arm or chair to participate in the rinks,&#8221; member and admin volunteer Adrian Graham said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s a bit of banter. Bowls is great for brains, and for mental health.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You can focus on something different, take your mind off things, have a coffee, some cake and a social chat.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a great alternative to get off the farm or out of the house.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/06\/IMG_1106_27915.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Men and women of all abilities are invited to have a go at the competition over winter weekends and meet new people.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>President Eugene Griggs said if top division bowlers keep coming back, they&#8217;re given a handicap to even out the competition.<\/p>\n<p>If the weather is too wet, the club offers indoor carpet bowls but Mr Griggs said it&#8217;s rare they don&#8217;t play outdoors.<\/p>\n<p>Cost is $10 entry which includes afternoon tea.
