{"id":102615,"date":"2025-07-18T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-17T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=102615"},"modified":"2025-07-16T22:06:08","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T12:06:08","slug":"learn-and-connect-at-haddon-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/learn-and-connect-at-haddon-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"Learn and connect at Haddon centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TERM three at Haddon Community Learning Centre will see a range of workshops, activities and programs on offer.<\/p>\n<p>The not-for-profit community centre operates under the Neighbourhood Houses Victoria program and aims to provide a place for people to connect.<\/p>\n<p>Centre manager Rick Bushell said the neighbourhood house is entering a new era with a focus on bringing the community together to better the north of Golden Plains Shire.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a new phase for the neighbourhood house and we have a new committee on board that got into place at our AGM in May,&#8221; Mr Bushell said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are really about trying to bring the community together and create activities and projects that benefit our region.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Local artists Kate Wise and Rosie Grundell will be running a four-week art course focused on spring flowers, birds and landscapes, which is suitable for all skill levels.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/07\/Rick2_32225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Haddon Community Learning Centre manager Rick Bushell in the new community garden.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There will also be a basket weaving workshop where participants will learn how to create a basket from scratch with local materials.<\/p>\n<p>Weekly activities include Pilates, yoga, tai chi, pickleball, craft club, social badminton, playgroup and quilting.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bushell said he is interested in promoting food security and environmental sustainability, and the centre recently began a partnership with the Linton emergency relief pantry.<\/p>\n<p>A community garden at the centre is also taking shape with a perma-blitz completed at the site.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re planning on doing a lot of hands-on stuff for gardeners and people living on small acreage plots,&#8221; Mr Bushell said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re looking at starting up a number of environmental sustainability programs as well, so we want to look a little bit wider than just the four walls here.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TERM three at Haddon Community Learning Centre will see a range of workshops, activities and programs on offer.
