{"id":102745,"date":"2025-08-01T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-31T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=102745"},"modified":"2025-07-30T21:38:57","modified_gmt":"2025-07-30T11:38:57","slug":"napoleons-pupils-plant-on-tree-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/napoleons-pupils-plant-on-tree-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Napoleons pupils plant on Tree Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LAST Friday 25 July, twenty-eight Napoleons Primary School students were by the Yarrowee River at Scotchmans Lead, just down from the Franklin Bridge, to participate in a Schools&#8217; National Tree Day planting bee.<\/p>\n<p>The event led by members of Napoleons-Enfield Landcare Group saw about 200 native plants put in the ground to create a meadow.<\/p>\n<p>These plants came from Ballarat&#8217;s community nursery at the Botanical Gardens, and were purchased through sponsorship by Simplicity Funerals, Central Highlands Water, GJ Gardner Homes, and the Ballarat Wildlife Park via 15 Trees.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have discovered native grass, so we&#8217;re going to maintain a grassland in amongst the plantings, and the students have planted a meadow around the edge of the native grass,&#8221; said Napoleons-Enfield Landcare Group member Jenny Ryle.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/08\/IMG_1790_74877.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Napoleons Primary School took part in Napoleons-Enfield Landcare Group&#8217;s third planting of the season.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s important for them to understand that we don&#8217;t just plant trees, we plant a whole range of plants that work together.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Some of the plants the students have planted today include milky beauty heads, golden everlasting, and dianellas.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A total of 2000 natives will be planted to revegetate the site beside the Yarrowee throughout the season, funded by the same sponsors.<\/p>\n<p>Simplicity Funerals location manager David Franzo said the business plants one native through 15 Trees for every funeral they run in order to offset their emissions.<\/p>\n<p>Ballarat Wildlife Park&#8217;s volunteer coordinator Darcy Strange said they plant a tree through 15 Trees per Koala Encounter they sell at the park.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_102752\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-102752\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-102752\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/08\/IMG_1747_75731-1-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/08\/IMG_1747_75731-1-rotated.jpg 800w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/08\/IMG_1747_75731-1-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/08\/IMG_1747_75731-1-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/08\/IMG_1747_75731-1-768x1152.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-102752\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Students contributed to the creation of a meadow which is next to patches of native grasses.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This is fitting, as a koala has recently been spotted enjoying the landscape along the Yarrowee at Scotchmans Lead.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a badge of honour to have a koala here,&#8221; Ms Ryle said.<\/p>\n<p>GJ Gardner Homes has been in partnership with 15 trees since 2010, and public relations officer Lisa Dark said they have funded more-than 100,000 trees to be planted in the last 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We donate 15 trees for every slab that we pour, and some years we can pour 50 or 60-plus,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative is part of the Urban Ripple Project.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LAST Friday 25 July, twenty-eight Napoleons Primary School students were by the Yarrowee River at Scotchmans Lead, just down from the Franklin Bridge, to participate in a Schools&#8217; National Tree Day planting bee.
