INVERLEIGH’S Federation Bridge has reopened to pedestrians after the completion of works on the riverbank and bridge structure.<\/p>\n
The riverbank was significantly damaged in the October 2022 floods and repairs were required to ensure the bridge wasn’t at risk of being damaged from further erosion.<\/p>\n
Riverbank works included a temporary river crossing for construction equipment, the removal of a fallen red gum, placing geofabric and rocks to protect the bank, and removal of the temporary crossing.<\/p>\n
The bridge was repaired by replacing the timber deck and kerb, the steel droppers, and all damaged and broken bolts and screws.<\/p>\n
Work was also undertaken to clear out bee hives and detritus, repaint the deck with non-slip surface, treat steel for corrosion and repainting, and adjust the level of the bridge so it is comfortable to walk across.<\/p>\n
Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Owen Sharkey said it is great to see the repair works completed.<\/p>\n
“We’ve received some excellent feedback from the Inverleigh community who are extremely pleased to have Federation Bridge open again,” he said.<\/p>\n
“The bridge is an essential pathway that provides a much-needed connection within the community.<\/p>\n
