THE feedback period is now open for Golden Plains Shire’s draft gambling harm minimisation policy.<\/p>\n
The draft document was endorsed for exhibition at last month’s council meeting.<\/p>\n
It explains the municipality’s position on gambling and harm minimisation, the action the council takes to minimise gambling harm, the roles and responsibilities of the Shire and the associated legislation.<\/p>\n
Under the Victorian Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, Local Government Areas have a responsibility to protect, improve and promote health and wellbeing.<\/p>\n
Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Owen Sharkey said it was important for community members to provide feedback about the policy.<\/p>\n
“The harm from gambling is undeniable and clearly a significant issue which affects people of all ages, families and also the broader community,” he said.<\/p>\n
“This draft policy aims to looks at ways council can assist in reducing harm from gambling through planning, regulation and enforcement, advocacy and partnerships, service delivery and community development as well as council infrastructure.”<\/p>\n
The draft policy is open for feedback until Monday 1 September at Golden Plains Shire’s website or customer hubs.<\/p>\n
