{"id":103214,"date":"2025-09-17T18:00:21","date_gmt":"2025-09-17T08:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=103214"},"modified":"2025-09-17T18:00:21","modified_gmt":"2025-09-17T08:00:21","slug":"sick-in-the-stomach-ling-on-cats-hawks-clash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/sport\/sick-in-the-stomach-ling-on-cats-hawks-clash\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Sick in the stomach\u2019: Ling on Cats-Hawks clash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"194\" data-end=\"340\">Geelong great Cameron Ling says he\u2019s \u201csick in the stomach but excited\u201d as the Geelong vs Hawthorn preliminary final looms large this Friday night.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"342\" data-end=\"549\">Speaking from his old primary school in Geelong, where the AFL Premiership Cup stopped as part of its national tour, the three-time premiership skipper opened up on his nerves and his confidence in the Cats.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"551\" data-end=\"627\">\u201cIt had to be Geelong-Hawthorn, just to make me nervous as hell,\u201d Ling said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"629\" data-end=\"732\">\u201cBut the Cats were ultra impressive against Brisbane. I still think they\u2019ll get up and go all the way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"734\" data-end=\"942\">Ling also praised the Hawks&#8217; dominant performance over Adelaide, calling it \u201ca high-intensity finals type brand of footy\u201d. But he believes Geelong\u2019s leadership, depth and finals experience give them the edge.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"944\" data-end=\"1053\">\u201cThey\u2019ve brilliantly coached, really well led and built to stand up to the heat of finals football,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1055\" data-end=\"1180\">Reflecting on his own finals success, Ling said his favourite Premiership Cup moment was Geelong\u2019s drought-breaking 2007 win.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_120731\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-120731\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-120731 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2025\/09\/ling-fyans-park-cup-1-1024x538.jpg?_t=1758079218\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"336\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-120731\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cameron Ling (centre) with students from his former school, Fyans Park Primary School, and the 2025 AFL Premiership Cup. I went to all four of those losing Grand Finals \u2013 1989, 1992, 1994, 1995,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1297\" data-end=\"1421\">\u201cTo finally have this piece of silverware back at Geelong\u2026 it was so special. I didn\u2019t really want to let it go on the day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1423\" data-end=\"1539\">With the community already buzzing, Ling said the Geelong vs Hawthorn preliminary final had reignited old rivalries.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1541\" data-end=\"1634\">\u201cYou\u2019ll see the blue and white scarves come out.
