THE hard work of volunteers has led to the expansion of one of the most unique disc golf courses in Victoria at Inverleigh Golf Club.<\/p>\n

With the addition of its new 18-hole championship course, Inverleigh Golf Club now boasts two 18-hole disc golf courses which both run alongside its traditional golf course.<\/p>\n

“It’s been a real team effort from all of the club volunteers to get this up and going,” Inverleigh Disc Golf Club member Andrew Ferguson said.<\/p>\n

Supported by the Berrybank Wind Farm Community Grants Program, the club volunteers recently put the finishing touches on the new course in time for 100 players from across Australia to test it out by competing on all 36 holes during the Inverleigh Disc Golf Open held last month.<\/p>\n

“The expanded capacity allows us to host larger leagues and tournaments, which will be the primary drivers for increasing club membership and player numbers,” Mr Ferguson said.<\/p>\n

As the niche outdoor sport of disc golf enjoys a rapid uptick in popularity, the Inverleigh club is now preparing for its summer league program to get going – coinciding with the start of Day Light Saving from the first Sunday in October.<\/p>\n

The club has at least 35 members aged from teens to almost 70 and is always keen to welcome more with those who want to know more encouraged to jump online and check out the club’s website.<\/a><\/p>\n

“The club itself is very welcoming,” said member Terry Bohan for whom part of the attraction is simply getting outdoors and socialising.<\/p>\n

“For me it’s a combination of the social side and also the competition side,” said Mr Ferguson who discovered his own passion for disc golf while in Queenstown in New Zealand back in 2007.<\/p>\n

It led to him not only becoming a dedicated disc golfer and former Aussie amateur champ, but also running a dedicated disc golf retail business and designing disc golf courses professionally as well.<\/p>\n
