HAVE you ever worried about whether your loved ones will know and respect your final wishes, or how to make things easier for them during a time of loss?<\/p>\n
Or perhaps you’re ready to take the first steps in planning but feel unsure about the many choices available. These are common concerns\u2014and you are not alone.<\/p>\n
That’s why Ballarat Cemeteries is looking forward to being part of the Ballarat Seniors Expo, to be held at the Ballarat Showgrounds and Events Centre on Wednesday 22 October 2025.<\/p>\n
“Our experienced team will be there to support you, answer questions big or small, and share information about our cemeteries and the services we offer and our role in supporting our local community,” said Ballarat Cemeteries’ client experience manager, Michelle Corcoran.<\/p>\n
“It’s a great chance to learn more about the end-of-life plans you can put in place now to bring peace of mind for yourself and your family.”<\/p>\n
Ms Corcoran said her team often meets families when they are grieving or facing an immediate need\u2014 times that are not always ideal to begin making important, meaningful decisions.<\/p>\n
“The Expo offers a chance to talk openly, without pressure,” she said.<\/p>\n
“These conversations can help you take the first steps toward easing the burden on yourself and your loved ones, and ensure your final wishes are heard and respected.<\/p>\n
“When people pre-plan, we see them leave our office with an enormous weight lifted from their shoulders\u2014they go away ready to focus on living life, not worrying about what needs to be done at the end.”<\/p>\n
For those who prefer smaller settings, Ballarat Cemeteries will also be hosting local Death Caf\u00e9s during the year.<\/p>\n
These informal gatherings invite people to ask questions \u2014or simply listen\u2014in a supportive space, over a cup of tea or coffee at a local caf\u00e9 or community venue.<\/p>\n
Cemetery staff will help facilitate the conversations, answer questions, and provide resources in a safe, non-judgemental environment. Visitors can register their interest at the Expo stall or by contacting Ballarat Cemeteries directly.<\/p>\n
Beyond the Expo, Ms Corcoran encourages the community to visit Ballarat New Cemetery, known for its beautiful gardens and historic monuments.<\/p>\n
“Our operations team takes great pride in maintaining the grounds, and we regularly receive feedback on social media about how beautiful the cemetery looks throughout the year,” she said.<\/p>\n
“If you haven’t followed us on our socials, you’re missing out on wonderful insights into our history, gardens, and local wildlife.<\/p>\n
“Many locals don’t realise how many visitors we welcome each day. You don’t need to wait for a funeral\u2014our grounds are open<\/p>\n
to anyone wishing to explore, reflect, or simply enjoy peaceful walks, birdlife, and biodiversity projects.<\/p>\n
“We just ask that visitors treat the space with care and respect, as it is the final resting place of our community’s loved ones.”<\/p>\n
The Ballarat Seniors Expo is part of Victorian Seniors Month in October, which celebrates and supports older members of the community in meaningful ways.<\/p>\n
