{"id":103700,"date":"2025-10-31T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-30T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=103700"},"modified":"2025-10-30T16:21:10","modified_gmt":"2025-10-30T05:21:10","slug":"ross-creek-intersection-to-receive-upgrade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/ross-creek-intersection-to-receive-upgrade\/","title":{"rendered":"Ross\u202fCreek intersection to receive upgrade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE intersection of Lacys Road and Sebastopol-Smythesdale Road at Ross Creek is set to receive an upgrade.<\/p>\n<p>The project will be funded through the State Government&#8217;s Safe Local Roads and Streets Program, which provides municipalities with the money to improve the safety of roads they manage.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a great package of funding for Golden Plains Shire,&#8221; Member for Ripon Martha Haylett said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In my patch there is this great one here in Ross Creek, but we&#8217;ve also got a raised pedestrian crossing in Smythesdale, (and) a raised pedestrian crossing and speed limit reduction in Haddon.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This project is all about the State Government giving funding to local councils to improve their local roads and streets.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The upgrade will include the addition of a concrete barrier and a traffic island on Lacys Road to prevent road users from cutting the corner as well as line marking on Sebastopol-Smythesdale Road.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2025\/10\/rosscreek2_32052.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The intersection of Lacys Road and Sebastopol-Smythesdale Road at Ross Creek.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The project is expected to go to tender later this year, with construction to begin in the first half of 2026.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This project will address a number of concerns we have at this intersection, primarily to reduce speed and prevent cars or trucks from cutting some corners,&#8221; Golden Plains Shire CEO Adam McSwain said.<\/p>\n<p>Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Owen Sharkey said it is great to receive assistance from the State Government in managing local roads.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our bucket of funds that we have is so limited so there&#8217;s many projects that get overlooked not having the funds available,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To be able to have State Government funds to fast-track these really, really helps.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Any community members who would like to see road upgrades in their area are encouraged to reach out to their local member or Golden Plains Shire councillors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE intersection of Lacys Road and Sebastopol-Smythesdale Road at Ross Creek is set to receive an upgrade.
