THE Gordon is placing creativity firmly at the centre of its newly revamped Game Design course, opening fresh opportunities for young developers eager to turn imagination into something they can play, share and showcase.<\/p>\n

The updated program comes off the back of a wave of talent emerging from The Gordon’s VETDSS Game Design students.<\/p>\n

Their flair for storytelling, character creation and world-building signalled that Geelong’s creative scene was brimming with untapped potential and provided the spark to take the course further.<\/p>\n

Design program lead Megan Grant said the enthusiasm coming from students made it clear that a more advanced program was the next logical step “We saw how engaged and imaginative our students were,” she said.<\/p>\n

“Their enthusiasm really drove us to take the course to the next level.”<\/p>\n

That next level now comes in the form of a future-focused course that blends 2D and 3D design, giving students the chance to build immersive worlds, animated characters and interactive gameplay from the ground up.<\/p>\n

The hands-on structure is central to the learning experience, supported by direct access to experienced animator and teacher Leigh Ryan.<\/p>\n

“Leigh brings so much to the classroom,” Megan said.<\/p>\n

“His background in animation gives students real insight into what it takes to succeed in the creative industries.”<\/p>\n

Students work collaboratively throughout the program, mirroring the team-based approach of the gaming industry.<\/p>\n

From early concept development and 2D foundations to interactive storytelling and 3D modelling, each stage is designed to build practical skills that translate directly into real-world creative roles.<\/p>\n

By the end of the course, students will have produced a complete 3D game with detailed characters, crafted environments and functional gameplay mechanics, providing them with a portfolio piece they can take forward into further study or industry pathways.<\/p>\n

Megan said the course is ideal for anyone with a spark of creativity or curiosity.<\/p>\n

“If you’re creative and curious about 3D modelling, animation and building game worlds, come and test it out for yourself. You’ll be surprised at what you can create.”<\/p>\n

With access to professional tools, expert guidance and a curriculum shaped around hands-on learning, The Gordon’s refreshed Game Design course is positioning itself as a standout choice for future game developers in the region.<\/p>\n
