THE Golden Plains Shire council is currently receiving community feedback in response to the proposal for a pedestrian road safety refuge in Teesdale.<\/p>\n
The council will also hold a community information session about the proposal at the Teesdale Public Hall later this month.<\/p>\n
It is part of a wider pedestrian safety improvement project for the Bannockburn-Shelford Road in Teesdale and responds to Department of Transport and Planning advice that a pedestrian refuge is the most appropriate improvement for the location.<\/p>\n
Main safety and access measures in the project design include a refuge with mountable kerbs located next to the town’s general store and pharmacy.<\/p>\n
The proposal also features a reconfigured car park opposite the general store, a right-turn lane for access to the car park for vehicles approaching from the east, and a new pedestrian access path from the car park to pedestrian crossing point.<\/p>\n
Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Owen Sharkey said the council was committed to improving road safety for pedestrians and other road users in Teesdale.<\/p>\n
“We have listened to the community and worked with the Department of Transport and Planning to identify a solution that will improve pedestrian safety while also improving access to Teesdale’s main shopping precinct,” Cr Sharkey said.<\/p>\n
“We encourage you to have a look at the proposed plan on council’s website and provide feedback on this important safety project.”<\/p>\n
Feedback is now being accepted up to 5pm on Friday 6 February, with the council hosting the information session at the Teesdale Public Hall on Wednesday 28 January at 6pm.<\/p>\n
