Archer Spackman was a strong winner of the under-16 men’s steeplechase and Jesse Nankervis excelled in the under-20 men’s 800m, winning in 1:57.92.<\/p>\n
Recently named City of Ballarat scholarship athletes in conjunction with the FedUni Westvic Academy of Sport, Rebecca Brodie won gold in the women’s under-20 hammer throw and Shone Wills likewise in the para under-20 women’s 100m.<\/p>\n
In relay events, the under-16 men’s 4 x 100m team of Archer Spackman, Jett Hill, Archer Morris and Cooper Tuddenham fared best for the club, earning bronze.<\/p>\n
The club’s performance in Albury came with one thrilling and important caveat, according to Rogers.<\/p>\n
“We’re predominantly a stronger cross-country club, so the fact we are slowly lifting up our track and field performances is exciting,” he said.<\/p>\n
“It’s nice to be working our way back up the ranks.<\/p>\n
“It’s all you can ask for as a president that numbers and results are going in the right direction.<\/p>\n
“We’re just a big family.”<\/p>\n
Ballarat YCW will formally celebrate its 80th anniversary with a dinner at the Ballarat Greyhound Racing Club on Saturday 9 May.<\/p>\n
