she said. &#8220;He&#8217;s just so gentle, so calm, so effective \u2013 he doesn&#8217;t do much and gets incredible outcomes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Spicer has been training dogs for 30 years and has won six Australian Working Yard dog titles and more than 100 trial dog events.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2026\/03\/B07K4352-JoeSpicer-s_64311.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Joe Spicer takes muster dog Reepa through its paces.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He is regarded as one of Australia&#8217;s best Kelpie trainers and breeders; his bloodline is so successful that GoGetta Kelpie pups were featured in the Netflix hit series Muster Dogs.<\/p>\n<p>Ten participants and their dogs went through a 10-step process under Mr Spicer&#8217;s tutelage, watched by four &#8220;fence-sitters&#8221; who took in tips from the sidelines.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2026\/03\/B07K4427-JoeSpicer-s_66637.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Joe Spicer demonstrates the finer points of working with dogs with the help of Reepa and some sheep.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re learning how to work with the dogs&#8217; instincts,&#8221; Ms Stray said of the clinic. &#8220;Joe teaches us how to work with that instinct; how to get the best out of it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The better trained your dogs are the less stress there is on your livestock and the easier it is to do animal husbandry, care and maintenance.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2026\/03\/B07K4559-JoeSpicer-s_68890.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Muster dog Reepa gives Joe Spicer a congratulatory lick.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But you&#8217;ve got to do work on your dogs to get there.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Spicer explains how to train dogs to work better and then takes dogs and their owners into an enclosure to demonstrate.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2026\/03\/B07K4694-CatHollowoo_71666.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cat Hollowood and her dog Baxter prepare for action.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ms Stray said participants included people who worked in feedlots, sheep and cattle farmers, and even a labrador breeder who had just got her own working dog.<\/p>\n<p>They came from throughout the region \u2013 Moriac, Maryborough, Willaura, Dunolly and beyond \u2013 and Ms Stray said some drove for two-and-a-half hours to get there.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2026\/03\/B07K4706-sheep-muste_73347.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Baxter the dog keeps a close eye on the sheep.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Two of the stockmen at Warrambeen did the course as well, so it was kind of win-win for everyone,&#8221;
