{"id":105324,"date":"2026-03-20T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=105324"},"modified":"2026-03-18T20:28:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T09:28:08","slug":"branching-out-for-reaching-out-in-linton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/branching-out-for-reaching-out-in-linton\/","title":{"rendered":"Branching out for reaching out in Linton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LINTON now has its own blue tree that&#8217;s hoped to promote helpful conversation and greater awareness around mental health and suicide prevention.<\/p>\n<p>A group of about 15 locals including members of the Linton and District Progress Association and Golden Plains Shire deputy mayor Cr Emma Robbins armed themselves with brushes, roller poles and blue paint last Saturday to brighten the dead tree that&#8217;s located prominently in the town&#8217;s railway precinct opposite the takeaway shop.<\/p>\n<p>Linton and District Progress Association member, resident and professional psychologist Karen Sherlock was among those who worked on Saturday morning to paint the tree blue in what&#8217;s become a widely recognised symbol for many.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2026\/03\/BluetreeD_84809.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"1381\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">LDPA treasurer Scott McMahon, resident David Clarke, LDPA president Margaret Jenkie, and residents Clare McMahon and Kerryn Williams.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ms Sherlock said the project was championed by the progress association, and supported by the council and the community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Crowies in Ballarat provided the paint which was donated through the Blue Tree Project. It looks amazing,&#8221; Ms Sherlock said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Blue trees are all about mental health and suicide prevention.
