IN an education landscape increasingly focused on outcomes, Ballarat Steiner School and Kindergarten offers something both timeless and forward thinking: a curriculum approved by ACARA that meets national standards while placing the care and wellbeing of children at its heart.<\/p>\n

Located in Mount Helen, Ballarat Steiner is part of a nationwide network of more than fifty Steiner schools, educating over 10,000 students across Australia. From Playgroup and Kindergarten through to Class 6, the school delivers a rich, balanced education ensuring academic rigour alongside creativity, connection and care.<\/p>\n

As children move into Prep, learning becomes more structured while still respecting the developmental needs of five and six-year-olds. Literacy and numeracy are introduced through rhythm, story and movement, supported by opportunities to help, rest and play. Practical tasks \u2013 setting tables, caring for the classroom, assisting others \u2013 foster responsibility and belonging.<\/p>\n

From Class 1 onwards, the Steiner approach comes into its own through the distinctive Main Lesson program.<\/p>\n

Here, maths, English, science, history and geography are taught through integrated thematic units that combine explicit instruction with artistic expression, problem solving and deep thinking.<\/p>\n

Students are encouraged to engage creatively, ask thoughtful questions and learn with compassion and curiosity.<\/p>\n

Children do not use digital devices until Class 6, allowing learning to be firmly grounded in hands on experience.<\/p>\n

Through knitting, weaving, woodwork, leatherwork and other artisanal crafts, alongside handwriting and the creation of Main Lesson books, children develop focus, creativity and strong thinking skills.<\/p>\n

Research and notetaking are introduced using books and other print sources, fostering deep comprehension and independence.<\/p>\n

By Class 6, graduates are confident, capable and well-prepared for secondary schooling across the region \u2013 academically strong, socially grounded and inspired to keep learning.<\/p>\n
