{"id":105743,"date":"2026-05-01T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-30T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=105743"},"modified":"2026-04-29T18:49:25","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T08:49:25","slug":"achieving-together-at-woady-yaloak-primary-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/education-week\/achieving-together-at-woady-yaloak-primary-school\/","title":{"rendered":"Achieving together at Woady Yaloak Primary School"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ESTABLISHED in 1994, Woady Yaloak Primary School is a unique four-campus school, with sites in Smythesdale, Snake Valley, Scarsdale and Ross Creek, just 10 minutes west of Ballarat.<\/p>\n<p>We offer the best of both worlds by combining the charm and close-knit community of small rural campuses with the facilities, programs and extra-curricular opportunities of a larger school.<\/p>\n<p>Following a comprehensive upgrade completed in 2024, our students now learn in state-of-the-art buildings across all four campuses.<\/p>\n<p>At Woady Yaloak Primary School, our school motto of &#8216;Achieving Together&#8217; is evident each day in classrooms across our four sites.<\/p>\n<p>We believe in supporting the growth of the whole child, as demonstrated by our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Excellence. These values are referred to constantly throughout the day during teaching and learning activities.<\/p>\n<p>We believe students learn positive behaviour just as they learn to read \u2013 through explicit teaching, practice, feedback and encouragement.<\/p>\n<p>By focusing on teaching and rewarding expectations, we create a calm, welcoming and supportive environment. To build this positive climate, we use the School Wide Positive Behaviour (SWPB) framework, an evidence-based whole-school approach that promotes positive behaviour while addressing issues constructively.<\/p>\n<p>To support student wellbeing and positive mental health, we integrate social and emotional learning into our daily lessons and complement this with the Respectful Relationships program and the Open Parachute program.<\/p>\n<p>Our learning programs are based on the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 and delivered through explicit, evidence-based instruction.<\/p>\n<p>Lessons are informed by formal assessments, teacher observations and pre- and post-testing, ensuring teaching is targeted to individual student needs.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/05\/WYPS21_31916.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"510\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Students have opportunities to participate in events such as an athletics day, cross country, winter sports and divisional competitions.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As part of our commitment to supporting all learners, we implement the EMU (Extending Mathematical Understanding) Numeracy Intervention Program. This evidence-based program focuses on early intervention through intensive, small-group instruction, enabling students to build confidence, overcome learning gaps and achieve greater success in mathematics.<\/p>\n<p>Community is at the heart of Woady Yaloak Primary School. We seek opportunities for students to enrich their learning and connect with the wider community through excursions, camps and special events.<\/p>\n<p>Our camp program helps students build resilience and strengthen relationships, with Year 5\/6 students alternating between Roses Gap and Billabong Ranch, Year 3\/4 students attending Cave Hill Creek or Camp Wyuna, and Year 2 students enjoying a school sleepover.<\/p>\n<p>Whole-school discos, Book Week performances, colour runs, student leadership forums and our biannual school concerts and art shows provide valuable opportunities for connection and celebration.<\/p>\n<p>Each campus also hosts events such as Special Person&#8217;s Days, swimming and special student lunches.<\/p>\n<p>We also value strong links with our wider community.
