AMBULANCE Victoria has put the call out for more recruits at the Dereel Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).<\/p>\n

The CERT is trained to render early assistance and lifesaving first aid intervention.<\/p>\n

They are found in less populated and remote areas where there’s a low ambulance caseload and no ambulance branch.<\/p>\n

CERTs are made up of volunteer first responders. They respond to traffic collisions, medical cases and other incidents requiring emergency care. They do not transport patients to hospital.<\/p>\n

“Our dedicated volunteers work hard to ensure our community has the best support in the event of a medical emergency,” CERT team leader Ione Archer said.<\/p>\n

“They are caring and committed people who sacrifice their time to put their neighbours first.<\/p>\n

“As a CERT member, you will be helping people in their time of need and making a difference to someone’s life and health outcomes.”<\/p>\n

Successful applicants would undergo an interview process and comprehensive training, including a driving course.<\/p>\n

“New members are fully supported throughout the training process, with ongoing education and support provided to maintain and enhance skills,” Archer said.<\/p>\n

“Joining Dereel CERT is an opportunity to help your community while expanding your knowledge. You’ll be part of our team and would be supported throughout the whole training process.”<\/p>\n

Jenny Mirams has loved being able to give back to the area since joining Dereel’s CERT in 2021.<\/p>\n

“It’s very rewarding being one of the first people on scene to provide that reassurance and emergency care to someone in their worst moment,” she said.<\/p>\n

“The role is also flexible to work around your personal commitments and you don’t need any prior medical or health experience because all the training is provided.”<\/p>\n
