KAY Hoskin is feeling blessed from the support she has received for her work helping keep school children safe crossing the road.<\/p>\n
Hoskin has been nominated for the Supervisor of the Year at the School Crossing Victoria Awards, to be announced Friday 10 July in Melbourne.<\/p>\n
Her nomination for her work at Bannockburn’s High Street crossing has drawn congratulations online and in person from across the community.<\/p>\n
“I feel a bit overwhelmed and you don’t think people take much notice of what you do, but obviously they do,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Half of Bannockburn have got their fingers crossed for me.<\/p>\n
“I’ve got comments or likes from friends in America, the mayor of Golden Plains \u2026 a whole variety of different people.”<\/p>\n
A crossing supervisor for five years, Hoskin started during COVID when a vacancy became open.<\/p>\n
With her sign Hoskin steps onto the road to allow children from St Mary MacKillop Catholic Primary School and Bannockburn P-12 safe passage.<\/p>\n
She even gets into the spirit on holidays, dressing up to bring out the joy in children.<\/p>\n
“I do dress up when there’s a special occasion, like Easter, I put an Easter Bunny costume on, and Halloween, I put a ghost or something on,” she said.<\/p>\n
When asked why she loved the work, Hoskin’s answer was simple.<\/p>\n
“The kids,” she said. “They’re amazing. They all say, ‘Good morning, Kay’, ‘Good afternoon, Kay’, ‘How are you going, Kay?’<\/p>\n
“I know there’s probably 450 kids. I probably know about 60,70 names, but they all know mine. So they’re just amazing.<\/p>\n
“And the teachers, the staff down there are amazing as well.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
