AN open day at Rokewood Memorial Hall this month will aim to gauge interest about its future use.<\/p>\n
To be held on Saturday 18 July from 10am to 3pm, the event will include a morning tea, variety market, the Rokewood Revival Op Shop, games and more.<\/p>\n
“It is a day aimed at introducing the community to the new group of people stepping up to manage and rejuvenate the space, and for residents to express their interests\/ideas of what they might like to see be offered at the venue,” volunteer and Rokewood and District Newsletter editor Tanya Vincent said.<\/p>\n
Earlier this year, the Golden Plains Rural Women’s Network took on management of the hall, which is owned by the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action.<\/p>\n
The network’s hall committee have already received suggestions about the hall’s possible use.<\/p>\n
They include the hall being used for cooking and preserving budget meals, youth group activities, lessons, accredited courses and basic computer classes.<\/p>\n
“It will provide another great community space for both young and old to come together socially, learn and create,” Vincent said.<\/p>\n
She said the day was a way of alerting the community there was a new management committee.<\/p>\n
“And while they are still in early planning stages, they are hoping to reinvigorate the space and ensure it remains a valued community asset,” Vincent said. “The committee is welcoming of community members’ feedback and ideas for the future.”<\/p>\n
The committee and newsletter are also running a photography competition. Selected images will be displayed in the hall.<\/p>\n
“We want to capture our wonderful local area and through the eyes of the residents themselves,” Vincent said.<\/p>\n
“We have separated entries into age groups and categories to gain a diverse collection of submissions.<\/p>\n
“We’re looking forward to seeing people engage with this and highlight their creativity.”<\/p>\n
Entries close on 12 September and can be submitted at rokewoodnewsletter@gmail.com<\/p>\n
