MELBOURNE Renegades Women\u2019s Big Bash League team is set to play a regular season match in Ballarat this year.<\/p>\n
The game will take place at Eastern Oval on Sunday, 9 December, against the Adelaide Strikers.<\/p>\n
The choice of venue has drawn praise from the head of the Renegades organisation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Renegades are delighted to be playing here in Ballarat in December,\u201d CEO Stuart Coventry said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are glad to be bringing the best two women\u2019s teams in the world to play here.\u201d<\/p>\n
At Tuesday\u2019s announcement City of Ballarat Mayor Councillor Samantha McIntosh applauded the decision.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is an exciting move forwards for our local female cricketers,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is going to be the biggest season in the WBBL and we\u2019re thrilled Ballarat will be a part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cr McIntosh added that the arrival of WBBL is a positive step forward for the city and for the growing number of women and girls choosing to play cricket in Ballarat.<\/p>\n
Mr Coventry said that playing more twenty20 games outside he capital cities was part of growing the sport.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is important to be bringing games to our regional areas and this in turn will help the game to grow for women all over Australia,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will hope to see three or four thousand people here to watch the game and it is wonderful to have the support of the City, and we hope to see you there.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
