EUREKA Cycling staged a brand-new trophy race on Sunday, 21 October.<\/p>\n
The race which is sponsored by Southern Cross Business machines, will be renamed each year to honour a stalwart of the club.<\/p>\n
The inaugural event was named for Lois and Bill Goldfinch who have been members since the club started ten years ago. Lois and Bill are well known throughout the Victorian veteran cycling community for their volunteer work, not only at Eureka, but also at other club\u2019s races.<\/p>\n
Thirty-five riders contested the tough Ercildoune- Addington Loop circuit. Jakkii Dawson launched a long-range assault from her limit group with half the race remaining.<\/p>\n
She held a seven-minute advantage over the steepest climb of the day with sixteen kilometres remaining.<\/p>\n
The two Scratch riders – Tim Canny and Adrian McGregor – were passing dropped riders at whim. They rounded up the main chase bunch with five kilometres remaining and soon had Dawson in their sights.<\/p>\n
The race went down to the wire with Dawson holding on to win by just 15 seconds in what was an epic race.<\/p>\n
Results – 1st – Jakkii Dawson (30 min), 2nd – Tim Canny (Scratch), 3rd – Adrian McGregor (Scratch), 4th – Jason Hendry (5 min), 5th – Greg Nunn (13 min), 6th – Jeremy Humber (8 min), 7th – Peter Canny (8 min), 8th – Peter Livitsanis (17 min), 9th – Bob Morley (13 min), 10th – Rick Calvert (8 min)<\/p>\n
