LEIGH Harvey, a veteran of the Vietnam War, was awarded Life Membership of the Air Force Association Ballarat Branch on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Ballarat Branch president Tom Roberts presented Mr Harvey with a certificate and lapel badge in appreciation for his work behind the scenes at the branch.<\/p>\n
Mr Roberts said this is a rare and distinguished award and follows a life time of faithful service.<\/p>\n
Mr Harvey, 74-years-old, who served in the Australian Army, has had a love of aircraft all his life in particular WWII planes.<\/p>\n
Mr Harvey said it was quite a shock actually to receive the award for something that he loves doing.<\/p>\n
He sets up the monthly meetings, organising furniture and food, marking attendance and making sure things run smoothly.<\/p>\n
\u201cLife membership is a privilege,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wasn\u2019t expecting it. I just do my bits and pieces in the background.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Harvey said he is not a badge person adding if you\u2019ve done something you don\u2019t need reminding.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
