THE Coalition has announced a $5.46 million commitment to assist with the building of a new Miners Rest Sport and Recreation Hub.<\/p>\n
Liberal Member for Ripon Louise Staley said the funding, from an elected Liberal and Nationals party government, will deliver a sporting hub with senior and junior ovals, shared netball and tennis courts, meeting spaces, a kitchen, and female friendly and universal access change rooms to the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis funding is a real win for the Miners Rest community who, for years, have been fighting for sport and community facilities,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
President of the committee for Miners Rest Alicia Bond said the committee itself has been lobbying for the sports hub for a number of years, however the whole Miners Rests community has been asking for, \u201cPotentially decades.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Bond said this is a very exciting announcement.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are no significant recreational facilities in Miners Rest at the moment apart from the primary school oval,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
With three sites in consideration for the location of the sporting hub Ms Bond said she doesn\u2019t have a preference, \u201cAs long as it gets done.\u201d<\/p>\n
City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Samantha McIntosh said, \u201cThe council must ensure that the Miners Rest community has all the facilities it needs to grow with health and happiness.\u201d<\/p>\n
With the announcement that the Coalition will partner with council on the construction of the sports amenities, Ms McIntosh said there\u2019s still a decision on the location and purchase of the land to be made.
