LORETO College student, Ella Sevior has won a silver medal at the recent Judo Victoria State Championships in Broadmeadows.<\/p>\n
She said having the medal placed around her neck felt \u201cexciting.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen it was all done, I felt like I\u2019d achieved something really important. I\u2019ve been working towards it all year.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sevior\u2019s mother, Julie Thomas said the 13-yearold\u2019s silver success, at the biggest event in Victorian judo, was fantastic for the Aspire Judo Academy.<\/p>\n
\u201cLast year she placed third, so a silver was due to her hard work and dedication,\u201d Mrs Thomas said.<\/p>\n
\u201cElla only gets to train and compete against males locally as females seem to return to the more traditional sports when they reach their teens.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sevior\u2019s coach, Rob Coelho, who has seen her win medals at every regional competition this year, said her performance was \u201cexceptional.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s fulfilling to see our students succeed and more fulfilling when it\u2019s a female player.\u201d<\/p>\n
The championships have been running for over 60 years and saw 250 judoka \u2013 judo athletes \u2013 step onto the mat at this meeting.<\/p>\n
Former JudoVIC president, Doug Noack said \u201cthe standard of competition is very high\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cCompetition was tough. Ella competed very well,\u201d Mr Noack said. \u201cIt is a step up to the States, so it takes some getting used to.\u201d<\/p>\n
Earlier this year, Sevior trained with Olympians on the Mornington Peninsula and has regularly travelled to Geelong for additional training and tri- Judo cup carnivals.<\/p>\n
She will travel up to the Gold Coast next year to compete at the nationals.<\/p>\n
Sevior studies Japanese language at Loreto College and has previously flown to Japan, inspired by her passion for Judo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
