THE annual Geordie Fawcett Memorial Cup event hit the Ballarat Light Car Club\u2019s Motor Sport Complex at the Ballarat Airport recently.<\/p>\n
Stawell\u2019s Reg Johnson said his \u201cold school\u201d Mitsubishi Galant won the main event in 83.74 seconds.<\/p>\n
The cup has run for over 60 years and each competitor drives an individually timed lap of the 1400m unsealed autocross track.<\/p>\n
Michele Bayley, BLCC treasurer, was impressed with the turn out. \u201cTo get 41 cars was really good going.\u201d<\/p>\n
New racer, Matthew Dillon, said it was \u201ctons of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cGreat support and comradery to make a newcomer feel very welcome,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Cup\u2019s namesake is former BLCC member, Geordie Fawcett who died in a light plane crash in the 1990s.<\/p>\n
Established in 1949, the club is looking for land to create a track elsewhere, due to Mitchell Park\u2019s industrial growth.<\/p>\n
