{"id":18707,"date":"2018-12-26T14:11:27","date_gmt":"2018-12-26T03:11:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=18707"},"modified":"2018-12-27T15:26:42","modified_gmt":"2018-12-27T04:26:42","slug":"geelong-tech-skilling-for-the-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/living\/geelong-tech-skilling-for-the-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Geelong Tech &#8211; skilling for the future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Geelong is at the forefront of a return of\u00a0<\/strong><strong>technical schooling to Victoria with the\u00a0<\/strong><strong>recently opened Geelong Tech School.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The school is part of The Gordon and uses innovative, leading-edge technology and discovery to give Geelong region secondary school students\u2019 skill options for a changing world.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong Tech is housed in a brand new purpose-built building on Latrobe Terrace, Geelong.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong Tech is one of 10 new tech schools across the state designed to challenge students to solve real-world problems and prepare for the future world of work.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the tech schools of decades past, students are enrolled at their regular schools but attend tech schools for specific programs designed to inspire their interest in STEM.<\/p>\n<p>STEM is where academic concepts are coupled with real-world lessons as students apply science, technology, engineering and mathematics making connections between school, community, work and global enterprise.<\/p>\n<p>The tech schools are hosted by universities or TAFE colleges, giving students a taste of higher education and potential career pathways.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong Tech is the link between 22 schools across the region and industry, through innovative learning programs.<\/p>\n<p>Learning centres on industry-led projects in a high-tech environment.<\/p>\n<p>Innovative educational programs are being developed collaboratively by industry partners and teachers, supported by experts in relevant fields.<\/p>\n<p>Technologies being covered include virtual reality, computer applications, 3-D printers and laser cutting machines, digital technologies and more.<\/p>\n<p>Teachers are encouraging applied learning through inquiry, design thinking and co-operation in order to extend students learning through accessing state-of-the-art technologies.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong Tech programs:<br \/>\n\u2022 provide applied learning using real life inspiration from local industries<br \/>\n\u2022 develop transferrable skills and capabilities sought by employers<br \/>\n\u2022 have strong links to current local industries and workplaces<br \/>\n\u2022 use different teaching approaches in applied and inquiry-based learning.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about Geelong Tech: thegordon.edu.au\/gts<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Geelong is at the forefront of a return of\u00a0technical schooling to Victoria with the\u00a0recently opened Geelong Tech School.
