A SHINING new barbeque trailer is servicing the community \u2013 specifically veterans \u2013 thanks to volunteering by the VicWest sub-branch of the Military Brotherhood\u2019s Military Motorcycle Club.<\/p>\n
With their fundraising, additional donations from an external Mates\u2019 Day and further sponsorship, the club was able to pull together enough money and support to build the trailer.<\/p>\n
MMC\u2019s VicWest president, Greg Green served 39 years with the ADF before getting involved with the club. He said the trailer was worth about $20,000.<\/p>\n
\u201cMilitary Motorcycle Club is simply there to help people. We fundraise and that\u2019s all we do \u2013 just help them access what they require,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The club has teamed up with local branches of the Vietnam Veterans Association and Totally and Permanently Incapacitated Association to deliver veterans\u2019 support together.<\/p>\n
VVA\u2019s Les Finch said the trailer is a \u201cbrilliant set up.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cUnfortunately, the numbers of our Vietnam Veterans are starting to decrease but we\u2019re always here to help out when we can.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s great to have the combined involvement\u2026 these boys are bringing a world of knowledge.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ray Charters from TPI enjoys working with MMC and VVA.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were lucky that the brotherhood asked us\u2026 we jumped at the chance.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are a lot of veterans that don\u2019t get involved with anything and our aim is to get them back in,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The three groups support at least a couple of hundred local veterans every year and hope to set up a veterans\u2019 assistance centre together.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
