BALLARAT Light Car Club member Josh Gay has taken to Sandown raceway, competing at the state level in a Nissan Pulsar with the Victorian 2 Litre Sports Sedan Series in the Australian Pulsar Racing Association class.<\/p>\n
Round one of the competition was held recently at Sandown with a full grid of 32 cars in what was a very hot couple of days.<\/p>\n
The series sees all cars set up much the same, with SR20 engines, locked diffs, controlled coil over suspension, tyres and brakes, as well as a minimum weight of 1100kg with driver.<\/p>\n
Gay has limited experience at Sandown but said he really enjoyed the track, getting up to speeds in excess of 190km\/h and racing door handle to door handle. He finished third in qualifying with a 1.34.1 and after the first 10 lap race finished a very creditable second, also logging a fastest lap.<\/p>\n
Races two and three were held on Sunday in high heat. In race two Gay got a great start to lead the class early but came home in 4th with the top-four separated by 1.2 seconds on the line.<\/p>\n
Race three was a highlight for Gay, who stared from 4th and then had a great dice with several of the APRA cars, making two great passes to finish second with the fastest lap time.<\/p>\n
Racing has been in Gay\u2019s blood from an early age.<\/p>\n
When he was four years old he starting racing a quadbikes at the Creswick & District Motorcycle Club.<\/p>\n
From there he moved on to motocross, then go karts where he found success and over the past three years circuit racing sprints at Winton Motor Raceway where he was the Juniors Championship in 2016.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
