THIS upcoming week, the Shine a Light on Road Safety campaign will bring road trauma to the fore of Victorian minds.<\/p>\n
Run by Road Trauma Support Services Victoria, the initiative aims to raise community awareness, stop injuries and deaths on our roads, and raise money for people affected by this trauma.<\/p>\n
RTSSV is a provider of counselling, support and education, contributing to the safety and wellbeing of road users across the state.<\/p>\n
From Monday 6 to Sunday 12 May, the service has organised for iconic Victorian landmarks to be lit up in solidarity with the campaign and National Road Safety Week.<\/p>\n
All participating landmarks will be illuminated yellow, and Ballarat\u2019s Town Hall clock will be involved from 8 May.<\/p>\n
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Samantha McIntosh said everyone has a part to play in decreasing road casualties.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy lighting up the Town Hall clock yellow we\u2019re hoping it sparks a conversation in our community about road safety.\u201d<\/p>\n
On Friday 10 May, people are encouraged to drive with their headlights on all day, to continue raising awareness.<\/p>\n
RTSSV hopes this will bring motorists together in a demonstration committed to better road safety.<\/p>\n
A social media hashtag will further spread the week\u2019s message.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone deserves to arrive home safely, so let\u2019s #shinealightonroadsafety and look out for one another on the road,\u201d Cr McIntosh said.<\/p>\n
