THE Million Paws Walk, RSPCA Victoria\u2019s largest fundraising event, is back in Ballarat on Sunday 19 May.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s 25 years since the RSPCA first launched the Million Paws campaign to end animal cruelty, and dog lovers are encouraged to bring along a pooch and get involved in the local walk at Victoria Park.<\/p>\n
The coordinator of Ballarat\u2019s walk, Amanda Tornel said organisers are \u201cbeyond excited.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs the organisers, we\u2019re really trying to make sure it\u2019ll be a great experience for everyone involved, from attendees to volunteers, exhibitors and donors, and that at the end of the day, we know that together we have advanced awareness of animal welfare,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019ll be a great opportunity for the community of Ballarat to acknowledge that there\u2019s still a lot of work to be done to protect pets in Australia from animal abuse, and the fact that there are so many people engaging with this event shows that they\u2019re aware of this issue and willing to take action about it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The walk will take place close to playground facilities in Victoria Park, making the event more accessible than ever.<\/p>\n
Free parking is available on site.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re really thankful for everyone who has already registered to attend the walk, and so far we have a record number of local exhibitors participating as well,\u201d Ms Tornel said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat better way to help the RSPCA Victoria fight animal cruelty than coming for a morning walk with your doggies and having some fun with the activities we\u2019re preparing?\u201d<\/p>\n
RSPCA Victoria CEO, Liz Walker said the Million Paws Walks are highly anticipated events annually.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery year it exceeds our expectations.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s inspiring to see the community band together and walk towards a future free from animal cruelty,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cNot only is the walk a vital fundraiser for us, but it also helps foster a sense of connection within local communities.<\/p>\n
The Million Paws Walk brings people together over a mutual love of dogs, to swap stories and tips to improve the wellbeing of pets across Victoria.\u201d<\/p>\n
The RSPCA is a not-for-profit charity with the vision to end all animal cruelty.<\/p>\n
The group runs animal shelters, clinics, education programs, op shops and investigates animal cruelty cases.<\/p>\n
More than 90 per cent of the RSPCA\u2019s operating expenses are generated by community support.<\/p>\n
The Million Paws Walk is held at 15 locations across the state, including Geelong.<\/p>\n
