CITY of Ballarat Mayor Cr Samantha McIntosh launched the municipality\u2019s Reconciliation Action Plan on Monday in celebration of Reconciliation Week.<\/p>\n
The RAP is the city\u2019s three-year strategic framework supporting the reconciliation process setting out four key areas, relationships, respect, opportunities and governance.<\/p>\n
\u201cReconciliation Week is significant for indigenous and nonindigenous Australians, it gives us an opportunity to reflect on the path of reconciliation here in Ballarat and across our nation,\u201d Cr McIntosh said.<\/p>\n
The council\u2019s Intercultural Services team worked with the Koorie Engagement Action Group and Reconciliation Australia to deliver the RAP.<\/p>\n
KEAG\u2019s governance structure facilitates direct liaison with the council and engagement with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have seen the Koorie Engagement Action Group grow with great strength and pride and offering great opportunities from which we can all learn,\u201d Cr McIntosh said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis RAP outlines a raft of achievable actions that work towards realising the City of Ballarat\u2019s unique vision for reconciliation. It aims to increase inclusiveness, equity, representation and quality of life for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Ballarat.\u201d<\/p>\n
