{"id":21873,"date":"2019-06-05T09:01:59","date_gmt":"2019-06-04T23:01:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=21873"},"modified":"2019-06-09T09:54:33","modified_gmt":"2019-06-08T23:54:33","slug":"historian-shares-invasion-story","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/historian-shares-invasion-story\/","title":{"rendered":"Historian shares invasion story"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FEDERATION University\u2019s Associate Professor of Aboriginal History, Dr Fred Cahir has launched his new book <em>My Country All Gone, The White Men Have Stolen It<\/em>, about the invasion of Wadawurrung country from 1800 to 1870.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Cahir said it looks at the relationships between the \u2018white spirit people,\u2019 or invaders, and the Wadawurrung.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a history that provides fine brush strokes of a wider changing frontier that was violent in nature but had, surprisingly, some instances of cross-cultural engagement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is as much a shared history, as it is an Aboriginal history. It talks about the Wadawurrung\u2019s attempts to survive the frontier war and to, at the same time, thrive in a new society forced upon them,\u201d Dr Cahir said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s probably only one of a handful of specific Aboriginal nation invasion histories of its nature in Australia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He recognises the topic is a sensitive one for a white historian to address.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m in danger of being seen to be talking on behalf of the Wadawurrung people.
