THE team from Hair and Beauty on Dana will raise funds for Motor Neuron Disease this Saturday, 29 June from 11am to 4pm, during East Point Football Club\u2019s home game.<\/p>\n
Helping to \u2018Cut Out MND,\u2019 salon staff member, Kathryn Brown is encouraging blokes to head down to watch the footy, enjoy a beer and have their hair trimmed.<\/p>\n
Ms Brown lost her father to MND 11 years ago.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was no information,\u201d she said. \u201cSome people only survive because they\u2019re fortunate enough to have the funds to be on a trial drug, but that should be available to every person that\u2019s diagnosed.<\/p>\n
\u201cFunds should go to the families, because it\u2019s expensive to have someone with a terminal illness at home, without trying to add experimental treatments into it.\u201d<\/p>\n
With the support of fellow hairdressers, Debbie Mercer and Belinda Hedji, she invites people at the Eastern Oval on Saturday to pay whatever they think their haircut is worth, with all proceeds going towards Fight MND.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re donating our time and will be set up on the dance floor. We\u2019re not exclusively closing it to men, however, we can do a lot more men\u2019s cuts than we can women\u2019s cuts in that time frame,\u201d Ms Brown said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a good chance for blokes. A lot of guys hate having their hair cut, so having a beer while watching the footy… It really can\u2019t get much better than that, can it?\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Mercer said there is awareness of the disease, but more needs to be done to find a cure. The footy fundraiser is a step forward.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are no ambassadors because none of them have lived,\u201d she said. \u201cFor the community to get involved, that\u2019s really important.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cut Out MND aligns with the club\u2019s theme for the weekend.<\/p>\n
\u201cEast Point are doing a charity match for MND so we thought we\u2019d take it one step further and show support for the cause,\u201d Ms Brown said.<\/p>\n
Hair and Beauty on Dana are a sponsor of East Point Football Netball Club, and they sponsor a player. Table 48 is also a supporter of the event, funding aprons, capes, t-shirts and hoodies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
