FOR over seventy-years, the first week of September marked Legacy Appeal Week.<\/p>\n
The goal of the week is to raise funds for Legacy to continue carrying out the organisation\u2019s work, said Legatee Ron Fleming.<\/p>\n
Legacy cares for the affected families and veterans of past wars by providing financial and wellbeing services.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt goes towards outings for widows, insurance, education grants, recognition of births for youth members\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n
Other Legacy initiatives include the Laurel Club \u2013 a social club for war widows, the annual Junior Legatees Camp, and advocacy for pensions and welfare.<\/p>\n
Legacy Appeal Week runs from Sunday, 1 to Saturday 7 September and sees Legatees out in the community selling badges and other Legacy tokens including bears, wristbands, pens, keyrings and badges.<\/p>\n
Mr Fleming said Legacy is \u201cleaving it to the public\u2019s generosity\u201d to fund their welfare programs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Australian people have always supported us, because they understand Legacy\u2019s purpose. It\u2019s about mateship, in caring for widows, and families left behind,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
There\u2019ll be an official launch for Legacy Week on Thursday, 29 August, with a morning tea at Town Hall from 10.30am and flag raising at the Queen Victoria Square at 11.30am.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
