THE reigning premiers now look the clear favourite for this year\u2019s BFL premiership, and to go back-to-back, after East Point were utterly too good for Melton on Saturday at City Oval.<\/p>\n
The Kangas lead from the first bounce, and even though they were scrappy in front of goal, it was clear that they were the far superior side and their 37-point victory should have been a lot more in the eyes of pundits.<\/p>\n
A four-goal to one opening term set the tone with Cam Lovig, Brad Whittaker, Matt Johnston and the ever dangerous Jake McQueen all hitting the scoreboard.<\/p>\n
At his quarter time address, Melton Coach, Aaron Tymms, described his side\u2019s opening term as, \u201cThe most boring quarter of footy he had seen all season,\u201d and demanded a much better response from his chargers.<\/p>\n
The Bloods narrowly won the second quarter despite having a three or four-goal breeze advantage, but pretty much broke even with the Kangas in the third, after some wayward kicking from the minor premiers.<\/p>\n
East Point coach Jake Bridges was rather animated in his three-quarter address and begged for his side to show \u2018composure\u2019 and tighten up the clearance count.<\/p>\n
Melton\u2019s Dyson Stevens was the best player on the ground and within the opening five minutes of the final term he produced two quick majors to reduce the margin to 15-points and give his side a sniff.<\/p>\n
However, it was the VFL-listed experience of Jacob Brown and Jordan Johnston who were able to seal the game for the Pointers with crunch goals, and ultimately help book their place in the grand final.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
