{"id":64003,"date":"2019-10-08T06:00:28","date_gmt":"2019-10-07T20:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=64003"},"modified":"2019-10-01T15:42:47","modified_gmt":"2019-10-01T05:42:47","slug":"seniors-safe-and-savvy-online","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/seniors-safe-and-savvy-online\/","title":{"rendered":"Seniors safe and savvy online"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TECHNOLOGY will be become less terrifying for older members of the community during Get Online Week.<\/p>\n<p>Ballarat East Neighbourhood House and Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre are hosting workshops to give seniors the tools they need to navigate mobile devices and the internet.<\/p>\n<p>Within separate classes, running between 14 and 18 October, tutor Greg Horgan will guide people through the My Gov and My Aged Care websites, help them get the most from their iPad or iPhone, and assist with safe navigation of the internet, avoiding scams.<\/p>\n<p>Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre\u2019s Maria Jones said the facility hosts community lunches three times a month. Staff have used these events, and visits to retirement and nursing homes, as an opportunity to survey older locals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe found out what the older people actually wanted to learn about technology.
