{"id":64191,"date":"2019-10-12T05:55:29","date_gmt":"2019-10-11T19:55:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=64191"},"modified":"2019-10-09T13:23:50","modified_gmt":"2019-10-09T03:23:50","slug":"designers-of-the-future-impress-architect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/designers-of-the-future-impress-architect\/","title":{"rendered":"Designers of the future impress architect"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SUSTAINABLE architect, Talina Edwards has gone back to her childhood this month.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s the official judge of the Ballarat Children\u2019s Art Award, and this year\u2019s theme, \u2018When I grow up, my house, my space will be&#8230;\u2019 has inspired work much like something her younger self might have produced.<\/p>\n<p>Reviewing 1500 entries, from pre-school and primary aged children, and secondary students, the works have been diverse.<\/p>\n<p>Young artists have been prompted to think about their future, look at building, interior and landscape design, and create an innovative space.<\/p>\n<p>Many have utilised pencils, crayons, collage, textas, paints, stickers and glitter, while one chose digital rendering.<\/p>\n<p>Looking at the creativity, ideas, use of colour or lack of, composition, balance, detail and thought injected to each piece, Ms Edwards has been \u201cblown away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmazing entries. Different interpretations. So much thought and effort has been put into them, but it\u2019s really hard to judge them because they\u2019re all gorgeous,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love drawing, it\u2019s my favourite thing, and looking at all these artworks, I can see a lot of similarities for how I used to try and express those ideas too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDrawing a house, you start with the typical square box with the triangle roof, but then you move on to playing with elevation&#8230; front view&#8230; plan view&#8230; bids eye view&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said entrants have explored underwater homes, houses in space, in the bush and on mountains. Some have chosen to unpack what the inside or outside of their future home might look like exclusively.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Edwards loves to see children being creative, so was honoured to judge, approached by organisers, Margie Balazic and Katherine Henderson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo have this creative thinking and being able to express their ideas with pencils and colours, I feel that hand-brain connection\u2019s really important,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s important for the future, especially when everyone\u2019s relying on digital technology&#8230; It\u2019s a skill but it\u2019s also really fun, and you can see everyone\u2019s given it a go.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of them have artistic talent that you can see straight away, and others have ideas that are so creative. They might not paint or draw as well, but the ideas are brilliant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Currently selecting 20 finalists for each age group, Ms Edwards hopes all the artists keep up their making whether they win an award or not.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been really hard to narrow down. They\u2019ve all done an amazing job. Don\u2019t give up, don\u2019t think because you haven\u2019t won that you don\u2019t have the talent because you absolutely do,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The Ballarat Children&#8217;s Art Award began in 2013 with entries growing 25 per cent annually. Prizes are awarded to age group winners.<\/p>\n<p>An awards evening will be held on Tuesday, 29 October at 5pm at North Ballarat Football Club.
