{"id":65018,"date":"2019-11-09T06:00:41","date_gmt":"2019-11-08T19:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=65018"},"modified":"2019-11-05T15:21:13","modified_gmt":"2019-11-05T04:21:13","slug":"connect-participate-and-learn-at-ballarat-east-neighbourhood-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/connect-participate-and-learn-at-ballarat-east-neighbourhood-house\/","title":{"rendered":"Connect, participate and learn at Ballarat East Neighbourhood House"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>EUREKA Hall is buzzing with fun, social activity, now home to the new Ballarat East Neighbourhood House.<\/p>\n<p>Offering social interest groups and a range of health, nutrition, wellbeing, fitness, arts and craft, history and gardening activities for adults, the house began taster sessions in August in response to things the community wanted to try.<\/p>\n<p>Having set up the Ballarat East Neighbourhood House from scratch, Kate Owen said the facility has one key purpose.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really to provide opportunities for people to connect, participate and learn,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>With 36 volunteers involved in setting up activities or sharing their skills and knowledge, there\u2019s lots planned at the Stawell Street base and beyond for term four.<\/p>\n<p>Tai Chi classes and history forums run regularly, a learn to crochet class is planned for next Wednesday, 13 November, a drawing class will run the week after, and a Ballarat Community Garden visit is set for later in the month.<\/p>\n<p>Laura Shearer has been making the most of activities on offer and said it\u2019s a very welcoming space.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great to meet other people, and the staff are lovely, very helpful and kind,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s absolutely met expectations, it\u2019s great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Annette Harvey enjoyed a Neighbourhood House in Melbourne for five years before she moved to Ballarat. She was excited to discover the new centre and take up Tai Chi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNeighbourhood Houses are fabulous.
