WANDERING around aimlessly around a plant nursery looking for inspiration may not be the best approach to gardening.<\/p>\n

Neither is peeping over the fence gazing in envy at the neighbour\u2019s blooms.<\/p>\n

If help is needed in creating that perfect garden space then the Guides of Ballarat Botanical Garden are the people to speak to.<\/p>\n

Join them on a special tour on Sunday, 17 November to learn about principles of design, gardening styles and guidance on plant choice.<\/p>\n

Terry O\u2019Brien, Convenor of the Guides of the Friends of Ballarat Botanical Gardens, said the event is designed to talk about the steps needed to achieve success in developing a home garden.<\/p>\n

\u201cPart of the activity will be selected stops along the very long Western bed that stretches the length of Gillies Street,\u201d Mr O\u2019Brien said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe bed is made up of different bays that have different planting styles<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will tap into these different garden styles to identify their structural components and examine how form, shape, colour, leaves, blossom and texture have worked.\u201d<\/p>\n

The guides will offer plenty of ideas, information and recommendations to gardeners of all standards.<\/p>\n

The tour wraps up with an opportunity to chat with other like-minded people over wine and nibbles plus there will be garden notes to take home.<\/p>\n

Dig for Ideas in the Western Bed for your Garden Tour meets outside the Conservatory at Ballarat Botanical Gardens, Wendouree Parade, Lake Wendouree on Sunday, 17 November at 4.30pm.<\/p>\n
