FIVE of Ballarat\u2019s young people have just received the second highest award a Girl Guide can receive.<\/p>\n
At the annual Guides Victoria Celebrate presentation recently, 11th Ballarat Girl Guides\u2019s Gracie Sherman, Kaitlyn Pollock, Amy Chester, Maggie Browning and Alicia Pollock received the Baden-Powell Award.<\/p>\n
Named after Guides Founder, Robert Baden-Powell, the honourees completed three challenges from each of the seven Australian Guides fundamentals, promise and law, Guiding traditions, service, patrol systems, outdoors and leadership to earn the award.<\/p>\n
Twins, Kaitlyn and Alicia Pollock have enjoyed working towards their BP goal together.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was a group of us in our unit all trying to get this award. We worked together and helped each other out to feel accomplished together,\u201d Kaitlyn said. \u201cIt broadens your horizon on what happens in the community, being able to go out and help with service and experiment with all different things happening.\u201d<\/p>\n
It\u2019s been a challenge for Alicia, but a lot of fun.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve done all these different things that I wouldn\u2019t have been able to without doing guides,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The awards were presented by Guides Victoria Central Highlands Region Manager, Louisa Watts. The awardees renewed their Guides Promise, gave family members Supporter Badges and cut their own celebration cakes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
