{"id":66484,"date":"2020-01-21T05:57:46","date_gmt":"2020-01-20T18:57:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=66484"},"modified":"2020-01-15T11:04:29","modified_gmt":"2020-01-15T00:04:29","slug":"activist-and-author-speaking-at-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/activist-and-author-speaking-at-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Activist and author speaking at awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BALLARAT council\u2019s Australia Day Awards ceremony will be bigger in 2020, booked in at new location, the Civic Hall.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor, Cr Ben Taylor said this is to accommodate a larger group of people who wish to celebrate the achievements of all finalists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe public are very welcome to attend this free event and enjoy hearing about all the wonderful things people of all ages and community groups are achieving in Ballarat,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The municipality is \u201cdelighted\u201d to have secured a unique guest speaker, author and advocate Rachel Cassidy.<\/p>\n<p>Previously an Australian of the Year finalist twice, Ms Cassidy has written nine books and worked with the late Nelson Mandela.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRachel has been involved in the non-for-profit sector for over 20 years working with various causes for the health and well-being of women and children,\u201d Cr Taylor said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe is a much sought-after public speaker and a passionate advocate for shining a light on the issues of stalking and bullying. We look forward to hearing Rachel speak at the Australia Day Awards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ceremony is set for Friday, 24 January at 5pm where a Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year will be recognised.<\/p>\n<p>Refreshments and nibbles will be provided after the program.
