{"id":66853,"date":"2020-02-11T05:55:16","date_gmt":"2020-02-10T18:55:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=66853"},"modified":"2020-02-03T17:36:13","modified_gmt":"2020-02-03T06:36:13","slug":"ballarat-as-it-was-in-extraordinary-footage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/ballarat-as-it-was-in-extraordinary-footage\/","title":{"rendered":"Ballarat as it was in \u201cextraordinary\u201d footage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BALLARAT cinema icon, Jack Anderson was a big hearted, spirited, generous man who didn\u2019t like to take centre stage.<\/p>\n<p>This is something that artist, filmmaker and creative director of Yum Studio, Erin McCuskey has recently discovered, commissioned by the Regent\u2019s Anderson family to research and pull his story together from archival footage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Andersons discovered a stack of reels,\u201d she said. \u201cThey were aware that it was rare for the family to have a birthday or gathering without Jack behind the camera&#8230; and some of it they hadn\u2019t seen.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_66854\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-66854\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-66854\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2020\/02\/Jack-Anderson-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-66854\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jack Anderson&#8217;s family bequeathed his film archive to the Australian Centre for the Moving Image.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Bequeathing the collection to the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, everything was digitised and McCuskey, in partnership with ACMI, has been able to curate a short film from the archives \u201cabout Jack, what he shot and his emotional connections to Ballarat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This series of short films and vignettes will be shown for one night only on Thursday, 5 March, 7pm at Regent Cinemas as <em>Large as Life:<\/em> <em>The Cinematic Legacy of Jack Anderson<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an extraordinary archive&#8230; and it highlights the extraordinary vision that this man had for Ballarat,\u201d McCuskey said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Anderson grew up in an era where there were four movie theatres to enjoy in Ballarat. Years later he restored the Regent after it had been closed for 10 years and made it a cultural icon.<\/p>\n<p>McCuskey hopes for a huge turnout. All proceeds will go to the Ballarat Arts Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a really amazing legacy.
