{"id":66985,"date":"2020-02-13T05:59:58","date_gmt":"2020-02-12T18:59:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=66985"},"modified":"2020-02-09T16:45:59","modified_gmt":"2020-02-09T05:45:59","slug":"party-vibes-at-rockin-debut-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/party-vibes-at-rockin-debut-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"Party vibes at rockin\u2019 debut festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DANNY &amp; the Juniors first sang, <em>Rock and Roll is Here to Stay<\/em> sixty-two years ago, and they were certainly onto something.<\/p>\n<p>The rockabilly and rock\u2018n\u2019roll cultures are alive and well, evident in the success of the first ever Rock Ballarat festival last weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Organiser, Stevie Kaze estimated between 6000 and 8000 people flocked to the retro party based in Armstrong Street North on Saturday and Sunday where there was live music, a dancefloor, markets and more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s been stuff going on all over the place,\u201d he said. \u201cOn Saturday we had dance lessons at the Civic Hall, pin-ups at the Mining Exchange, free bands in Armstrong Street, then venues like the Hop Temple were joining in.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_66988\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-66988\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-66988\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2020\/02\/Rock-Ballarat-2-for-web-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-66988\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rock Ballarat organisers hope to expand their day and night market offerings for 2021.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s definitely had the vibe that we were looking for. There\u2019s something going on all the time, there\u2019s music playing, people dancing at the free stage, a vibe on the street&#8230; It\u2019s come together very well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A \u201cmagnificent range\u201d of about 100 cars were on show at the event which was organised \u201cfrom scratch\u201d within 22 weeks and attracted attendees from across Australia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are a lot of rock\u2018n\u2019roll people and rockabilly people in Ballarat, but to make it accessible to everyone is the goal here,\u201d Mr Kaze said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got people from Perth and Queensland. I met a lovely couple from Kangaroo Island who\u2019d come over to enjoy the festival.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople who wouldn\u2019t normally go for rock\u2018n\u2019roll and rockabilly, we want to get them involved too. It\u2019s part of the dream, to bring it to as many people as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rock Ballarat\u2019s team was \u201cblown away\u201d by the response to their debut event and its brand, following the cancellation of former local rockabilly festival, Ballarat Beat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got people who\u2019ve turned up this year that said they wouldn\u2019t come back to Ballarat after last year,\u201d Mr Kaze said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_66987\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-66987\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-66987\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2020\/02\/Rock-Ballarat-3-for-web-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-66987\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">About 100 old vehicles were shown as part of Rock Ballarat.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe fact that people have recognised a new brand and new faces, they\u2019re willing to travel for it, and we\u2019re looking forward to having a greater reach again next year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re already in planning stage for 2021.
