Launching from St Patrick\u2019s College, it will challenge people to walk 20kms with a 20kg pack while thinking about and discussing mental health, PTSD and suicide.<\/p>\n<p>John Shanahan, Nathan\u2019s dad said it\u2019s the walk\u2019s fourth year, encouraging families to come along, raise funds and conversations, while also enjoying food, coffee and entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re really looking forward to it. Last year was a wonderful turn out and we achieved something that I really wanted to, a more carnival atmosphere&#8230; A vibrant presence,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re building on that this year. Take away the sombre. Let\u2019s not dwell on all the terrible parts of mental health, let\u2019s concentrate on all the positives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of these people that do suffer from mental health have got some tremendous attributes, so let\u2019s make them really feel welcomed, aware and part of our society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Josh Martin, leading firefighter at Ballarat City Fire Brigade was a friend and colleague of Nathan. He said emergency services have been involved with the Ballarat campaign since the outset, especially because Nathan was a firefighter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir ongoing support has been fantastic in putting it together and making sure it continues,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNathan\u2019s initial walk was supported by Mildura CFA, but the walks nowadays are supported by Ambulance Victoria, Police, CFA, ESTA and Rapid Relief Team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Martin said emergency services personnel may be recent faces of the walk, but it\u2019s important for everybody to spread the message.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not just an emergency services and defence force based issue, it\u2019s a community based issue.
