{"id":67696,"date":"2020-03-19T05:56:19","date_gmt":"2020-03-18T18:56:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=67696"},"modified":"2020-03-19T08:49:44","modified_gmt":"2020-03-18T21:49:44","slug":"reconnecting-with-people-and-produce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/reconnecting-with-people-and-produce\/","title":{"rendered":"Reconnecting with people and produce"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A PLETHORA of plants are already thriving at the Lucas Community Garden, officially launched last Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Open and easily accessible, planter boxes full of sunflowers, tomatoes, herbs, saltbushes, a fig tree, a lemon tree, and more, make up the green space just outside the Lucas Community Hub.<\/p>\n<p>Katherine Scott is a Community Garden Committee member, part of the initiative\u2019s development over the last 12 months.<\/p>\n<p>She said the project is a collaboration with the City of Ballarat and something the neighbourhood wanted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve gone for plants that people can pick and use as they go by, and that are low maintenance. Fresh things that people can easily pluck, take away and eat on the run,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want it to be a meeting space to enjoy connecting with other people. We\u2019re passionate about reconnecting people with where our food comes from and creating community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re also keen on promoting growing your own food, food security and sharing knowledge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Most of the garden\u2019s plants have been supplied by Avalon Nursery in Haddon.<\/p>\n<p>Informal gardening education sessions will be held at the site across winter.
